About Bulgaria

Bulgaria is one of Europe's fastest developing destinations; a report of the tourism commission with the European Union has shown recently. The survey revealed that Bulgaria achieved great success at a time when the world tourism faces challenges.

This was confirmed when Bulgarian ministers gathered in a popular seaside resort on 9th October, to make an overview of the past summer tourist season.

The economy minister said in Nessebar that summer 2004 was the country's most successful holiday season in 20 years, doubling the number of visitors who visited in 2003. Greeks were particularly interested, followed by Macedonians, Britons and Scandinavians. Germany, Italy, the USA and Israel were other big source countries. Incomes in the sector totalled EUR 1 B over the period.

An increasing number of foreigners are investing in property in Bulgaria. Bulgaria is a relatively unexplored and untapped market for property buyers and hence offers the opportunity to maximise capital growth and rental yields. The cost of living is cheap (a typical three course meal with wine costs ˆ5 per person). Burgas International Airport is only a half hour drive to Sunny Beach, Nessebar and Sozopol. Scheduled, charter flights and budget airlines now operate direct services to/from major European airports (typical return flight under £200), and there is now investment in place by the Japanese to expand Burgas airport, including an additional runway.

The top statesmen has outlined a national strategy for tourism development over 2005-2007. In the forthcoming years, Bulgaria will spend BGN 15 M (approx EUR 8 M) on tourism advertising.

The property Market

The property market in Bulgaria is a highly plausible winning investment: Bulgaria’s property prices will rise sharply to begin to converge with European averages and over the past two years they have already shown signs of strong growth. This process is spurred by Bulgaria’s accession to the European Union (scheduled for 2007) and Euro currency in 2009.
